with frozen yogurt, a plunger and yeast. and i was thinking to myself, "now this is maybe the weirdest combination of items i've ever purchased at once."
i drove all the way to Stanton America to look for a plunger after the convenience store in Greenwood yielded no help in that department. i find the little grocery store in Stanton mildly frustrating. I don't get the organizational system at all. the chips are by the shampoo in the front while the cat food and paper towels are paired with the soda. even though it is so small, it seems like i always have to do a lot of walking and searching before i either stumble upon what i need or give up.
after a few laps in search of the plungers.... pause that thought....
i recommend that if you do not own a plunger you stop reading this and go buy one. it's a gross fact of life - but there's not much more panic-inducing than seeing that water rise... slowly... slowly... will it over flow???? will it?? WILL IT? and then when it stops just short of the brim you feel a sort of elated relief to which little can compare. and when you are caught without a plunger, that panic and relief and whatever other emotion you may experience is exponentially greater. so go get one. do it.
anyways, i had looked high and low for the household tools and necessities... i found some scattered about down different aisle... but never any broom or plungers or mops.
so i found myself despairing and gravitating toward the ice cream.
to my defense, it is hella windy today. it was already blowing gale force at 7 am and only picked up as the day wore on. and if you have spent much time in west Texas, you know that the wind has a mysterious effect on people. AND dogs, apparently. people become worse drivers and irritable. dogs break into your garden and dig up all of your rows that were carefully planned and planted. ANGER ANGER ANGER.
gardening has been tough this year so far. we planted and then replanted after several little guys keeled over. and the new ones were looking a little weepy but were hopefully on the upswing when they met their sudden and violent demise at the paw of an irish wolfhound. though most of the tomatoes were left untouched, thankfully.
speaking of wind... it was a terrible day for trying to hoe and build dirt mounds. my contacts have sufficiently trapped a good amount of grit onto my corneas.
but i digress.
so i was looking at the flavors of gallon sized blue bell. and then thought better of it, so i was looking at the options in the pint sizes. but then i remembered that i am trying to be healthy and that i have unpredictable lactose intolerance. so then i let my eyes travel down to the 5 ounce containers of blue bunny frozen yogurt. bingo.
what? spoon under the lid?! i can eat it on the way home?! YES!
is it "clean" eating compatible. don't think so.
did i care at that point? no. it was enough for me that it wasn't a gallon of rocky road - but still frozen, creamy and delicious.
i decided to take one more look-see around, because surely they don't expect me to drive all the way to Midland for a plunger. what do people in this town do when they are in need of toilet trouble rescue?
then i found them. right there. between the ground beef and Julio's corn chips. OF COURSE!
on my way out i remembered that i wanted to try the gluten free pizza dough again and needed some yeast. so i snagged a 3-pack and headed to the check out.
frozen yogurt, a plunger and yeast. that's all this girl really needs in life.
i've subbed for the same teacher the last three days. by the end of today i was ready to move on. although - i was finally starting to get some respect from the worst ones. part of my desperate ploy for students to give a rip about what i say to them is unashamed artsyness:
09 April 2013
so there i was....
