so.
today was move-in day for incoming freshman. the bcm team walked around and helped parents and their little soon-to-fly-fledglings up countless flights of stairs with arm loads of dormish decor.
there were several amazing divine appointments.
the following are probably not those.
1. i was standing at the northstar church's free hot dog stand. the hot dog griller was about to walk over to me with hot dog in tongs to be placed in the bun i was holding.
"wait wait, throw it from there." i say.
he does.
the wiener launches a solid 15 feet through the humid and heavy air.
and yes. yes i did catch it. in the bun.
"that was a youtube moment" one from the small crowd of 6 exclaims.
2. i had mentioned wanting to find a floor lamp for a corner in my room. so my dear roommate took me to the YMCA's annual stuff sale. basically college kids donate/sell their stuff at the end of the spring and the Y saves it to have a garage sale of mammoth proportions in the fall. super cheap. i find a decent lamp for 5 bucks. the shade is a little torn but i get a good idea for making a new one and take the plunge. as mel and i were walking back towards the apartment, lamp in tow, the heavens open and i'm talking within a matter of seconds, it was like getting sqirted with a fire hose. TORRENTIAL down pour.
the lamp shade did not survive.
speaking of sudden showers. yesterday i went out for a jog. i hate running. but i just felt like it.
about a mile into it the rains came. it was only a moment of transition from dry-ish to looking like i had just jumped in the pool with my clothes on. the waters were rising too. at one point it was ankle deep on the path i was on.
but i had a dinner appointment so i couldn't wait it out.
i pressed on.
after a little over a mile of slip sliding around in my squishy wet shoes i made it home. my feet are paying for it today. blisters in places i've never seen before.
gross.
so yeah. it's been rainy here.
and now, things that have made me over use the term "i'm so jazzed":
the farmers market that is only blocks from my abode
charokee purple tomatoes. look em up. try one. it'll change your life.
(there is a tomato tasting on saturday. i will attend)
little yellow pear tomatoes by the pint. yum.
i found vegeta (the balkan's mrs. dash) at a world foods store here.
learned how and plan to apply the knowledge to make sushi
idea for how to fix up my corner of my "office" (a space i share... not really my office)
so today was my first visit to the farmers market. i bought a patty pan squash:
and based an entire meal around it.... then forgot to even use it.
awe....
tomorrow. i'll let you know how it goes.

patty pan squash? OH! I accidentally grew two of those in the garden and I thought they were some sort of genetic mutant or something. Let me know how it tastes. Sounds like happy times in the life of M. K. Harrison.

love the hot dog bun catch move. Very slick. You're the coolest kid on campus.
Want to attend tomato tasting.
Love rain showers- don't see many of those in my hood.
And when you say, "I'm so jazzed" about anything, please tell me you also do jazz hands.
