The city in which i live is full of treasures. just not apparent to the immediate view. at first you might think it is just another city. bustling. dirty. but despite its lack of wealth and historical structure, it has a very deep history. war. prejudices. hatred. love. hope. discouragement... you just have to dig a little. and i have barely scratched the surface.
this weekend was splendid. a coworker came up from a town 3 hours south so that we could meet. the first nights events transpired as follows:
we walked to the grocery store next door to the apartment. we wanted to go to a skating rink that we had heard about, so we hailed a taxi and asked if he knew of the skating rink. with hesitant enthusiasm, he said he believed so. so we started driving (and the meter started ticking) as wee drove around, he stopped three times to ask other cabbies if they had ever heard of a skating rink. this is not boding well.
so after a few turns here and there he drops us off at the mall, which incidentally is where we had just walked (40 minutes walk) home from before we decided to go skating.
then he pointed of in a vauge direction and said it was over there. i am certain he just dropped us off at the mall because he gave up his act and figured, we'd find something to do there. there was no skate rink. there was a few steps that some skate boarders were hanging out on, but that was the closest thing. so we went into the mall thinking we could catch a movie. but this malls movie theater was broken. so we walked over to the other mall and checked out their movies. er uh. movie. mama mia was the only thing playing. ummmm... no. sorry if that's your favorite movie of all time. but not interested. so we went downstairs to the grocery store in the mall and got some food to make dinner at the apartment and watch a movie there. so we bought groceries and took a cab back to the grocery store by the apartment.
yes. you read right.
we bought groceries and then took a cab to the grocery store next door to the apartment.
hah.
an hour and 1000.oo denari later... we had dinner and a movie.
at home.
hah.

Hey Lovey!
I've been catching up on your life...I've been internet-less for weeks, so I'm trying to get updated. I very much enjoyed this story. I feel like it's representative of our lives for the next few years.
Thinking of you-
Erin
