i drove out to the cotton fields south of town.
me, my coffee, a yellow balloon and a marker.
i had an appointment to go release a few burdens. (the marker and the balloon were a part of that).
after a few minutes of driving down one road, i saw a great turn row that would be a prime spot for sitting and thinking and so on.
so i turn.
immediately i realize, i shouldn't turn here. it's been soaking raining the past week, and this sand was so soft.
instead of throwing it into reverse and getting out, i saw a clearing about 20 yards ahead that would be a good place to just turn around.
about 20 yards later i was stuck.
i tried to get out for a while, but it seemed futile. so i just hung out and met my maker in that quite place. gave him my burdens - watched them until they were out of sight.
then i hopped back in the truck and almost immediately got out of the ruts i had carved.
then about 2 yards later was stuck. it was much softer here. i was up to the axle in the rear. it was much worse than before. after trying to be mcgiver and dig my way out with a crappy plastic funnel, i finally gave in.
i walked down the road and went to the first house i saw.
the nicest guy, and his 2 year old boy dropped what they were doing (listening to Texas Tech murder A&M on the radio) and came to rescue me.
well, the two year old really didn't do much.
at any rate. between his shovel, chains, planks and my mom's fJ we were out of there in no time.
so this morning i was stuck. unstuck. stuck. unstuck.
and now i am on my way.
literally. i leave sometime this week for Macedonia.
