i knew this day would come, but i guess i secretly hoped it wouldn't.
my chucks are done. they may have walked their very last. but they went out in glory. i wore them for the last time on a prayer walk and looong day in the hood.
it was byrom. the day where the muslim community sacrifices animals in order to give the meat to the poor. so yes. that is bloodin the street. I am posting the other pictures from that day on the roma photo site (link to the right). but i should warn you they are not for those with weak stomachs.
but i will tell you what i saw in all the blood and guts of the day.
i saw very clearly how empty righteous deeds only make us dirtier if we have not the love of Christ in us. i saw an endless stream of blood flowing down from all these sacrifices and rejoiced that there has been a final sacrifice already made on our behalf and that the blood from it is ever flowing over me, continually cleansing me. i saw the amazing creativity and intricacy of the insides of cows and sheep. animals we give little thought to other than food and that bad smell when the wind comes from the direction of the stockyard - and then i thought, God is amazing to put that much care in seeing that these beasts have all the right inner workings... and how much more He cares for His children! i saw lives being taken to check off the religious deed list with no ceremony, prayer or anything remotely spiritual. i saw the bondage of a people lost and the beauty of the freedom i know and felt the heartbreak for the distance in between.
it was a long day.
a good day
a hard day
and my chucks were with me to the end.

aw... RIP red chucks. I like the tribute photo to them in your title box. I remember those chucks. Mine are yellow.
I just have to tell you this. My Paw Paw Joe passed away on December 1st. His name was Mr. Joe Taylor. We also said "Goodbye Mister Taylor" on December 1st. He was a great man of faith. He spent his retirement on planting an apple/peach orchard when he was in his mid-sixties and then when he was 70 decided to build a house . He was always helping people too.
Also i didn't realize that Dec 1st was byrom. But just weeks before he died, my Paw Paw started reading the Qu-ran. So...that's kind of interesting. I don't think he finished it.
