so we were sitting in dupont circle of dc. just watching people and enjoying the day. it was a little warm - but really beautiful. there in the middle of the circle. near the fountain was a man.
a man in little running shorts. a sweat band around his head. a tank top. tall socks and running shoes. this man was alone. however, the circle was filled with business men on their lunch break, couples cuddling on pic nic blankets, homeless men and women, mothers and children, students studying and the masses of passers through.
so back to the man.
there he stood alone in the middle. three steps up and in clear view of the entire park populous. he chose this spot and this time for which to do his yoga workout of the day. he would dramatically assume various, often painful looking, poses and hold... hold.... hold... them. one of which made me laugh was where he stood in a wide stance, his arms raised straight above his head and then leaned back until he looked like a sideways 'v'. this man was not an asian master of the art. he was not a young super-fit pro. he was a trim, middle aged african american.
anyway.
he continued on with his yoga.
on and on
and on
and on.
:::enter the clown:::
so out of nowhere come a clown.
he walks up in regular street clothes. windpants and a polo with a beanie pulled down over his ears. he had a white face, black lips and yes - a big red nose.
he walked around the circle a few times and then went up behind yoga-man. he began to mimic the positions. gradually people start subtly pulling out their cameras to capture this moment. after about four or so differnt poses the yoga-man starts cussing the clown.
so the clown relents and continues on his way. he makes loop after loop around the circle just giving people the eye. the stank eye...
he made fun of the way a few women walked - also unwelcomed by his muse.
then he disappeard. the yoga man completed his routine and then walked off spouting various obscenities to say that "the whole world is full of clowns, and he's just another one."
profound, yoga-man. profound.
later on i saw the clown with no face paint or beanie. it was a 30 - ish hispanic man that had a few compadres that seemed to be up to no good.
you just never know what people do in their spare time i guess.
