today i've been wondering what a godly wife looks like.
i stumbled upon a blog (and let's just all agree that nowadays "stumbling upon" something on line is usually 90% due to pinterest. at least for me) this morning with 25 ways to be a godly wife. or however many there were. so i started wondering about it in my own life.
i so badly want for godliness to be the most outstanding attribute of my character. in all areas. as a woman, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a neighbor.....
so naturally my flesh starts trying to compile a to-do list and measurement devices for whether or not that is true or if i can work harder to make it true.

then.... i read my utmost for his highest, the daily devotional of oswald chambers.
talk about timely. he basically says that the rich young ruler who came to Jesus to ask what he needed to do to get into heaven had the same problem i do.
the point of jesus telling him he needed to give up everything he owned wasn't to add to his checklist of action items to gain entry to heaven. it was to strip him down to a man with no crutch or dependency that will fully be able to crave and follow Jesus. Jesus alone.
it is not our possessions or our ability that gain favor with God. it is our identification with his son, Jesus. and when we are identified with Jesus - godliness happens.
sooo... the conclusion is to seek Jesus. not to seek godliness.

that being said, what do i do with my time, hour to hour. especially lately - when my husband is gone 18 hours a day on a crazy schedule in a job that is increasingly miserable. when i am home by myself for long periods. when i've already cleaned the house several times this week.... when there is not much of a routine for me these days.
how do i stay busy like a proverbs 31 woman without just being busy busy with not much purpose. how do i honor the Lord with what he has given me right here and now?
how do i encourage my husband through a rough patch in his career and as he fights to persevere while waiting on a word from God?
how do i stay involved in our families lives and care for them long distance?
how do i inspire people and share the gospel when if feels like i still don't interact with people?

just realized i sound a lot more dismal than i am.
i do have a lot of questions - but at the same time - it has been really incredible to watch how God answers them continually. and then reminds me of his answer as he gives more opportunity to apply it.

it's all good

Good thoughts. I started reading Bro Lawrence "practice of the presence of God" this week and it was a great reminder of how to talk to him through all the mundane chores/busy things. It's about just having a relationship with HIM and that can take shape in a lot of different activities. Good stuff.
